We’re looking for an energetic person with a heart for teens and a passion for service who can step into the salaried, full-time position of Director of Youth and Service Ministries at St. Luke Lutheran Church in southwest Portland, Oregon. As part of an engaging team, you’ll report to Lead Pastor Patti Welch and Pastor Beth Brashear. You’ll be responsible for: 1) guiding the faith development of our high school youth; and 2) leading volunteers of all ages in our church’s community service and outreach work.

The Director of Youth and Service Ministries will develop a compelling program that draws the interest of high school youth and inspires their ongoing spiritual development. Involving youth in program planning and evaluation is a top priority. Harnessing the energy of volunteers of all ages, the Director of Youth and Service Ministries will also lead our congregation’s service mission, including coordinating volunteers, leading service projects, and directing food pantry work. The position requires close work with pastors, staff, and volunteers to advance the mission of St. Luke to worship, connect, and serve. We hope to find an applicant who can engage the entire St. Luke community in service and youth ministries.
The person we’re seeking should want to become part of the St. Luke family of faith; be able to attract, involve, and inspire our congregation; love working with high school youth; and be able to inspire service work across all generations at the church. The applicant should have an Associate's degree or equivalent; experience working with youth in a ministry setting; experience in community service and outreach; work well in a team setting; and have a desire to work in a vibrant faith community.
We offer a competitive salary ($41,000 to $45,000 to start, depending on experience); excellent health/vision/dental insurance, retirement, disability and other benefits per current St. Luke personnel policy; a welcoming and supportive congregation eager to have service as an integral part of their spiritual lives; and a community striving towards diversity and inclusion.
