We're looking for an energetic person with a heart for teens and a passion for service who can step into the half-time (20 hours per week) position of Director of High School Youth Ministry at St. Luke Lutheran Church in southwest Portland, Oregon.
As part of an engaging team, you’ll report to Lead Pastor Patti Welch. You’ll be responsible for guiding the faith development of our high school youth, engaging them in fellowship, worship and service and fully integrating them into the life of the church.

Brief Position Description
The Director of High School Youth Ministry will develop a compelling program that draws the interest of high school youth and inspires their ongoing spiritual development. Involving youth in program planning and evaluation is a top priority. St. Luke Youth (SLY) actively participate in fellowship, community service and outreach, lead worship and participate in learning, service and mission trips. The position requires close work with pastors, staff, and volunteers to advance the mission of St. Luke to worship, connect, and serve.
The person we’re seeking should want to become part of the St. Luke family of faith and love and have a gift for working with high school youth and their families. The applicant should have an Associate's degree or equivalent; experience working with youth in a ministry setting; excellent organizational and communication skills; work well in a team setting; and have a desire to work in a vibrant faith community.
Pay is $30-$35 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits include health/vision/dental insurance (St. Luke pays 50% and employee pays 50% for half-time employees), retirement, disability, sick leave, vacation and other benefits per current St. Luke personnel policy.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate as a member of the Children & Youth Ministries Team under the supervision of the Lead Pastor and in conjunction with the Associate Pastor.
- Lead weekly youth ministry gatherings by teaching a large group lesson, organizing small group discussions and overseeing social events.
- Engage and connect with youth weekly.
- Meet with parents regularly.
- Develop a team of caring volunteers to provide leadership & assist with special events.
- Collect and maintain a youth information database.
- Contribute to congregational media outlets regarding youth ministry events.
- Plan with the youth outreach service projects and fellowship activities including summer weeklong service projects and national youth gathering.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
